Just a 'Quickie' today as I have a busy day ahead.
It's really a little post for......
.
.
From the show 'The Grand Parade', 1929/30 ** see below
.......over at Molly Golvers blogspot,
some excellent photos
of shadows.
It was by Elsie Carlisle all the time, however
I can't find her singing it.
Never mind, here's the song on an old 78.
** I have located the songs 'Molly' and 'Alone in the Rain'
I will try to get the mp3 links up if I can.
It would appear that the musical drama 'The Grand Parade',
is one of those great 'lost' films.
No copies survive.
Some of the songs do and 'Molly' can be heard here.
Synopsis: No one suffered more magnificently in the early-talkie era than the inimitable Helen Twelvetrees. In The Grand Parade, the actress is cast as Molly, the sweetheart of minstrel-show performer Jack Kelly (Fred Scott). Rising to the top of his profession, Kelly plummets to the bottom thanks to his fondness for intoxicating beverages. Molly nurses and coddles Kelly back to health, giving nary a thought for her own comfort or happiness. Our hero finally makes a spectacular comeback -- but will he cast off Molly in favour of seductive burlesque queen Polly (Marie Astaire)? In the typical fashion of early talkies, The Grand Parade contains way too many musical numbers, though the title tune is rather pleasant.

Nice one Unc! You could do me a "rainbows" post next :D
ReplyDeleteWhen I've stopped laughing I might be able type my comment! You're a star Bernard! Pleeeez post a rainbow for Kath. If you do I'm going to write to Santa and ask him to send you two Gigantic Grandmas for Christmas just for you :0)
ReplyDeleteGood morning ladies. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it.
Will look into your kind request, and I guess music about rainbows is probably not too difficult. Finding it in my awful filing system is the problem.
Hmmmm, let me see, where did I last see it?
Cheers.....Bernard
"I'm a star!"
ReplyDeleteGosh!
The only similarity, between me and a star is my teeth.
"They both come out at night!"
(No. Only joking). :D
